A cloud version of Genie virtual assistant, built with Genie toolkit, can be found at https://genie.stanford.edu. You can try it by clicking the "Try Genie Now" button. This allows you to test skills using public APIs. To use Genie with your personal accounts, such as Spotify, you need to register a Genie account and connect it with your own Spotify.
You can sign up for your Genie account here. You can choose to grant consent to Genie research, in which case, Genie will record your commands. This allows Genie to improve its understanding of natural language. The collection is completely confidential, and personal data such as emails and phone numbers will be stripped automatically.
To enable a skill with personal credentials, you need to configure it here.
For example, to enable your Spotify account in Genie, simply click the "Spotify" button. After you log in to Spotify and grant permission, the account should be set up and you will be directed to your Genie page. If you click "Enabled Skills", you will see your Spotify account. Now you can ask Genie to control your music:
Play songs by Jay Chou
Very quickly, you should start hearing music out of your Spotify! Of course, you can also try different tracks, artists, and genres, but why would you?
Note: if you receive an error, make sure you have a Spotify app open somewhere. You can use Spotify on your phone or PC, or the Spotify Web Player at https://open.spotify.com. If you use the Web Player on Mozilla Firefox, you must manually start playing once first, to ensure the tab has permission to play audio.
Some other commands you can try:
Pause playback
Play some EDM
Play the latest album by Taylor Swift
What is currently playing?
For more commands you can try, check the Genie cheatsheet.
